Crystal Reports Runtime Fails to Install

Problem

On Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 the Crystal Reports runtime fails to install.

Solution

Windows Update KB2999226 is missing

  1. Download the Windows Update MSU
  2. Install the MSU
  3. Install the Crystal Reports Runtime

The update is to the C runtime. It is included in SP1 for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2. If it is missing it may have been removed or skipped (for example if SUS is being used).

The KB is mentioned in the Crystal Reports prerequisites however, this doesn't list the C++ runtime requirements.
