Program uninstalled but service not removed

Problem

If an Adams service application no longer shows in Add/Remove Programs (XP or Programs and Features (Vista/7) but the service is still listed under Services then a new version will not install.

Solution

Remove the service:Open Regedit

  1. Open Regedit
  2. Navigate to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
  3. Remove the entire folder entry for the Adams service application. Ex: Foray WAN Acquire Service
  4. Stop the service and close any command windows open to the service directory.
  5. Delete the entire installation directory. Ex: \Program Files\Foray\Foray WAN Acquire Service)
  6. Reboot the machine to get Windows to re-read the registry
