Problem

This is a collection of tips and techniques for repairing Windows. These may be appropriate if updates won't apply, if control modules (like Windows Update Settings or Network Adapters) don't work properly, or other issues.

System File Checker (sfc.exe)

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

sfc /scannow

System Update Readiness Tool (dism.exe)

Fix Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Windows 10 Media Creation Tool

This may fix Windows 10. It can also be used to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10, which may correct the issue.

Download Windows 10

1. Download and run the creation tool.
2. There are then two options:
   1. Upgrade - This performs an in place upgrade/re-install. No USB or DVD needed. Keeps existing apps and data. Creates a Windows.old. Very robust.
   2. Create Media - Create a USB, DVD, or ISO to perform other operations from
