Printing to a label printer from a secured page

Problem

Adams Web prints directly to a label printer from the browser. When Adams Web is secured with HTTPS this presents a problem as browsers will block the call from a secure page to an insecure page. The label printers only communicate over HTTP (no SSL/TLS certificate).

Solution

Mixed content has to be allowed for Adams Web in the browser. This is only necessary on computers that will be printing labels. It is necessary for each user to make these changes.

Chrome

  1. Open Adams Web in Chrome

  2. Click on the lock icon in the address bar to the left of the address

  3. Click on Site settings

  4. A new tab will open with the site settings of the Adams Web site

  5. At or near the bottom is “Insecure content”

  6. Change the setting to Allow

  7. Reload the Adams Web page

  8. Adams Web will now be able to print labels for the current user on the current machine.

Edge Chromium

  1. Open Adams Web in Edge Chromium

  2. Click on the lock icon in the address bar to the left of the address

  3. Click on Site permissions

  4. A new tab will open with the Site settings of the Adams Web site

  5. At or near the bottom is “Insecure content”

  6. Change the setting to Allow

  7. Reload the Adams Web page

  8. Adams Web will now be able to print labels for the current user on the current machine.
