Some agencies, the latent print unit processes evidence for itself. For example, if the latent print unit develops and photographs the evidence as well as analyzes and compares the developed impressions. In this case, they would use the Workflow with Evidence Processing request and report templates. (In this workflow, there is an Evidence Processing request, which requires the associated report template.)
If the latent print unit does NOT process and photograph evidence, they will use the Workflow without Evidence Processing. For example, in some agencies, there is a separate unit, such as the crime scene unit that not only collects the evidence at the crime scene, but they also process the evidence as well as photograph any latent impressions that develop. The latent print unit gets access to the photos via Foray ADAMS (or Digital Workplace).
There are more latent print units in which the latent examiners process and photograph the evidence as well as analyze and compare any developed latent impressions. Therefore, the Workflow with Evidence Processing request template and corresponding reports templates should be considered the “default” option. If the latent print unit does NOT do its own evidence processing, then it can be replace with workflow and load the corresponding report template.
