Problem

Info

The Photoshop (PS) icon appears in Digital Workplace (DW) but an image will not open in Photoshop.

Solution

Things to check:

  1. Verify that PS will run by clicking on the shortcut in the start menu, and desktop if applicable.
  2. When PS is open, verify on the About screen that it is the 32-bit version (in 2017 CC, Help > About Photoshop CC).
  3. Right click the shortcut, and verify the target path is correct, typically "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe"
  4. Verify that the TIF file association is correct in Windows. From Windows Explorer, click on tools > folder options > file types. Browse to tif. Verify that it is set to open with PS.
  5. Make sure that Windows knows the path to Photoshop. To do this go to Start->Run and type Photoshop.exe. If this doesn't open Photoshop then check the registry. Make sure the following is present "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe". This key should exist and should have the following values:
    1. (Default), REG_SZ, <FULL PATH TO PHOTOSHOP.EXE> - Ex: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe
    2. Path, REG_SZ, <FULL PATH TO PHOTOSHOP DIRECTORY> - Ex: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\
  6. Run Photoshop as Administrator then close Photoshop.  In some cases, this causes Photoshop to correct its registry entries.
