Filters, CC 2018 and Windows 7, and "Not the right kind of document"

Problem


1) With Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 on Windows 7, when Photoshop is opened by double clicking on an image file or by processing from ADAMS, Photoshop shows this dialog when trying to save a calibrated image.

2) If a RUVIS (Reflective Ultra Violet Imaging Systems) camera is used to capture images, the tif created is not a true tif, but the green spectrum of the image. Photoshop will need to be told where and what file-type to save the working file

Behavior

1) After calibrating an image, using the Foray Image Calibrator filter, and clicking OK to apply the change a dialog opens with the following message:

"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

2) After using the Foray Chromatic FFT filter and clicking OK to apply the change a dialog opens with the following message:

"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

Solution

  1. On Windows 7, Photoshop must be opened first, before opening an image.

  2. A "Could not write file: <file name> Browse to new location?" dialog after clicking OK in the calibrator/chromatic filter may appear.

  3. If that message appears, select Yes and select the desktop to save the calibrated image to and save as a tif.

  4. The image will then open as expected.


Starting with Photoshop CS 2020.

     Adobe API's don't allow the filter software to specify a "save to" location.

              To workaround this issue

                     1. Open a file in the target folder

                     2. Perform a "save as" operation.

                     3. Adobe will save the file into that folder.
